What’s Really Making You Sick?

Are you sure you know what’s REALLY making you sick? And, are you doing all you can to make yourself well?

Karen Carrier, Director of Houston’s Center for Overcoming Overeating, Inc., has this to say,” “Quite often, we’re not addressing things that really make people sick – such as social isolation, a job they hate, relationship struggles, chronic financial problems, or an absence of spirituality and meaning in life.”

Believe it or not, 30% of Americans have visited an alternative medicine provider, such as an acupuncturist. There is an enormous amount of research being done in the field of mind/body/spirit. Carrier feels these beliefs, incorporated into your interactions with your health care professional, will help:

Thoughts, beliefs, and emotions are key variables that make us well or ill.

Emotional well-being, adequate rest, pleasure, and play are as important in maintaining good health as cholesterol, blood pressure, and your fitness level.

Listen to your intuition and take charge of your own health.

Be flexible and accept yourself.

Optimal health results when you develop the ability to live consciously, combining the external advice and recommendations of medical experts with the internal wisdom and experiences in your own life and your own body.

Participants in one survey identified these seven traits as key to enjoying a happy, healthful life: being optimistic, believing in a higher power, having positive thoughts about people, being future-oriented, being trusting, feeling in control of one’s life, and feeling in control of one’s health
